How to Crack: Strategic Blueprint
Pick where you are. Each plan is built around past papers, a formula diary and honest mock analysis.
Your board syllabus is the JEECUP syllabus, so one well-planned year covers both.
- 1Finish each NCERT / UP Board chapter properly for boards, then solve 30-40 objective questions on it the same week.
- 2Give Maths the biggest share of time: it is half the paper (about 50 of 100 questions).
- 3Build speed without a calculator from day one: squares to 30, cubes to 15, √2, √3 and common fractions by heart.
- 4From January, take one full 100-question timed paper every Sunday and log every mistake.
- 5After boards, switch fully to JEECUP mode: daily timed sets and two full mocks a week until the exam.
Topper-grade short notes
One-page chapter sheets
For each Class 10 chapter, write one page: formulas, 3 typical question types and one solved example. Fourteen maths pages and about a dozen science pages become your whole exam-week revision.
Mental-maths drill book
Calculators and log tables are banned, so keep a small notebook of squares, cubes, standard trig values, π-based shortcuts (22/7) and common fractions. Do a 10-minute no-calculator drill daily.
Error notebook
For every wrong or guessed question, write the question in short, your mistake and the correct idea in one line. Re-solve this list every two weeks; most score gains come from here.
Hindi-English keyword list
Questions appear in both languages. Note key terms in both (e.g. अपवर्तन = refraction, प्रतिरोध = resistance, समांतर श्रेढ़ी = AP) so you never lose a question to wording.

Chapter Weightage & Do-or-Die Matrix
Vidyarthi AI estimates based on the size of each Class 10 NCERT / UP Board chapter and topic lists from CollegeDekho and PW; JEECUP does not publish weightage and we found no reliable chapter-wise count of recent Group A papers. Maths is about 50 of the 100 questions per the 2026 brochure.
Where your marks come from (estimate)
Must-do chapters carry roughly 235 of 400 marks. Get the must-do chapters fast and accurate without a calculator, and a seat in a good government polytechnic branch is a realistic target.
JEECUP does not publish chapter weightage and Group A papers are only viewable after login, so these are Vidyarthi AI estimates and will vary by shift.

Real Numbers and Polynomials
- HCF and LCMHCF(a, b) × LCM(a, b) = a × b (for two numbers)
- Quadratic zerosFor ax² + bx + c: α + β = −b/a, αβ = c/a
- Cubic zerosFor ax³ + bx² + cx + d: α+β+γ = −b/a, αβ+βγ+γα = c/a, αβγ = −d/a
- Usefulα² + β² = (α + β)² − 2αβ
💡 The HCF × LCM product rule works for two numbers only, not three.
Linear and Quadratic Equations
- a₁x+b₁y+c₁=0, a₂x+b₂y+c₂=0Unique: a₁/a₂ ≠ b₁/b₂; No solution: a₁/a₂ = b₁/b₂ ≠ c₁/c₂; Infinite: all three ratios equal
- Quadratic formulax = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac)) / 2a
- DiscriminantD = b² − 4ac: D > 0 two real distinct, D = 0 equal, D < 0 no real roots
💡 "Equal roots" means D = 0; solve for k directly.
Arithmetic Progressions
- nth termaₙ = a + (n − 1)d
- SumSₙ = n/2 [2a + (n − 1)d] = n/2 (a + l)
- Term from sumaₙ = Sₙ − Sₙ₋₁
💡 Counting numbers divisible by k between two values is just an AP: n = (last − first)/k + 1.
Coordinate Geometry
- Distanced = √((x₂ − x₁)² + (y₂ − y₁)²)
- Section (m:n)((mx₂ + nx₁)/(m + n), (my₂ + ny₁)/(m + n))
- Midpoint((x₁ + x₂)/2, (y₁ + y₂)/2)
💡 In the section formula, m multiplies the SECOND point.
Trigonometry
- Identitiessin²θ + cos²θ = 1, 1 + tan²θ = sec²θ, 1 + cot²θ = cosec²θ
- Complementssin(90° − θ) = cos θ, tan(90° − θ) = cot θ
- sin values0°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90° → 0, ½, 1/√2, √3/2, 1
- tan values0°, 30°, 45°, 60° → 0, 1/√3, 1, √3 (90° not defined)
💡 Write sin values as √0/2, √1/2, √2/2, √3/2, √4/2 to remember the whole table.
Heights and Distances
- Basictan θ = height / horizontal distance
- Two points (30°, 60°), gap dh = d·√3/2 when both points are on the same side
💡 Always draw the figure; angle of depression from the top equals angle of elevation from the bottom.
Circles and Areas
- CircleArea = πr², Circumference = 2πr
- Sector (angle θ)Area = (θ/360°) × πr², Arc length = (θ/360°) × 2πr
- TangentTangent ⟂ radius at point of contact; tangents from an external point are equal
💡 Use π = 22/7 when the radius is a multiple of 7; the options usually are built that way.
Surface Areas and Volumes
- CylinderV = πr²h, CSA = 2πrh, TSA = 2πr(r + h)
- ConeV = ⅓πr²h, CSA = πrl, l = √(r² + h²)
- Sphere / hemisphereV = (4/3)πr³ / (2/3)πr³, SA = 4πr² / CSA 2πr², TSA 3πr²
- Melting-recastingVolume before = volume after
💡 In recasting questions, cancel π on both sides before multiplying anything.
Statistics and Probability
- Mean (grouped)x̄ = Σfᵢxᵢ / Σfᵢ
- Medianl + ((n/2 − cf)/f) × h
- Empirical3 Median = Mode + 2 Mean
- ProbabilityP(E) = favourable / total, P(not E) = 1 − P(E)
💡 Two dice give 36 outcomes, one deck gives 52 cards: write the total first.

Exam Day Hacks & Reasoning
Never leave a question blank
There is no negative marking. A blind guess among 4 options is worth 0.25 × 4 = +1 mark on average, and a 50-50 guess after removing two options is worth 0.5 × 4 = +2 marks. Blank answers score exactly 0, so mark something for all 100 questions before time runs out.
Time split for 100 questions in 150 minutes
Target about 1.5 minutes per question. A workable plan: Maths about 75 minutes, Physics and Chemistry about 60 minutes, 15 minutes to revisit skipped ones and fill every blank. Start with whichever half you are faster in.
Two rounds, then fill blanks
Round 1: answer everything you are sure of, skip anything over 2 minutes. Round 2: return to skipped questions with elimination. In the last 5 minutes, guess every remaining blank.
No calculator, no log table
The brochure bans log tables, electronic calculators, mobiles and any communication device in the exam room. Practise all arithmetic by hand, and keep numbers as fractions or surds (√3, 22/7) until the last step.
Reach early for biometrics
The brochure asks candidates to reach the centre two hours before the exam to complete biometric registration. Carry the admit card and a photo ID; only a black or blue ball pen is allowed.
