Problem 1 of 6

The 75% Attendance Reality

Real minimums, condonation and what happens when you fall short.

AKTU minimum

The AKTU B.Tech ordinance (AICTE Model Curriculum, effective 2018-19) asks every student to attend all lectures, tutorials and practicals. Up to 25% can be condoned (clause 3.1), so in practice about 75% is the line. AKTU's own site blocks automated readers, so this text comes from the same AKTU ordinance hosted by an affiliated government college. A newer AKTU ordinance may exist; we could not open it.

Medical certificate & condonation

Clause 3.1: up to 25% can be condoned on medical grounds or other genuine reasons beyond the student's control. Clause 3.2: the Head of Institution can give a further relaxation of up to 15% for absence taken with prior permission. Any condonation fee or fine is not in the ordinance, so it is a college-level practice if your college charges one.

What happens below the limit

Clause 3.3: a student who does not meet the attendance requirement is not allowed to sit the end semester exam and is treated as detained. Annexure I: a detained student can abandon the whole year and repeat it, or abandon only that semester; if the other semester alone does not give enough credits for promotion, the whole year is repeated.

Is 75% a national rule?

We did not find a clear official AICTE or UGC rule that fixes 75% attendance for B.Tech. The minimum is set by each university's ordinance (for example 85% at VTU for the 2022 scheme, 75% at RGPV). AICTE has publicly called a circular claiming to scrap the 75% rule fake, so ignore WhatsApp forwards saying attendance is no longer needed.

Problem 2 of 6

Backlog & Year-Back Shield

Promotion rules decoded and a calm plan to clear back papers.

AKTU promotion rule

Clause 10.1: no restriction on moving from an odd semester to the next even semester. Clause 10.2: to move into the next academic year, you must have either fully cleared one semester of that year, or earned at least the minimum credits of either semester (the ordinance's example: 17.5 credits in 1st year is enough to be promoted to 2nd year). If you fail this, you are not promoted and repeat the year. Clause 4.3: a student who fails 1st year twice cannot continue (a third attempt may be allowed on university terms). Clause 4.2: maximum 7 academic years to finish (6 for lateral entry). The ordinance we opened gives no separate credit or back paper number for promotion to 3rd or 4th year.

Applies to: AKTU B.Tech, AICTE Model Curriculum ordinance effective from session 2018-19. Note: NIET Greater Noida, an autonomous AKTU-affiliated institute, follows a stricter version (50% credits of the previous year for each promotion, plus 1st year passed with no carry over paper and 5.0 CGPA to enter 3rd year, and 1st and 2nd year passed with no carry over paper and 5.0 CGPA to enter 4th year). That is NIET's rule, not confirmed as AKTU's own current rule.

Recovery plan, without panic

  1. 1Check your result for papers marked as carry over (failed theory or practical).
  2. 2Carry over papers are written along with the end semester exams of the matching semester (clause 11.2), on the paper running in that semester (clause 11.1).
  3. 3Your earlier sessional (internal) marks are normally carried forward, so focus on the end semester paper.
  4. 4Keep an eye on AKTU notices for special or extra carry over exams, which the university announces separately.
  5. 5If you are short of the promotion credits, talk to your college exam cell immediately about which semester to repeat (Annexure I options).
  6. 6If your SGPA is below 5, clause 14.2(b) allows an improvement exam in that semester's theory subjects.

Problem 3 of 6

Re-evaluation & Scrutiny Guide

How to see your copy, challenge marks and whether they can drop.

Can marks go down? Not stated in the rules
  1. 1Clause 17.1: scrutiny and re-evaluation are allowed only in theory papers.
  2. 2AKTU opens two separate options after each result: Scrutiny of marks and Challenge Evaluation.
  3. 3Apply online through the Student Dashboard on the AKTU website (Student Section), log in with your own ID and password, pick the subjects and pay online.
  4. 4The window is short and dated per semester (in the college notices we saw, it opened a few days to a few weeks after result and stayed open about 10 to 12 days). Watch AKTU and college notices.
  5. 5For Challenge Evaluation, colleges may also ask you to tell the college exam office which subject you challenged.

Fees and fine print

No official fee is given here because we did not open an AKTU circular that prints one. The ordinance does not say whether marks can go down; clause 14.3(a) gives the university the right to scale or moderate marks. Process details come from college notices (ABESIT, 2018 and 2019) relaying AKTU's portal, not from an AKTU circular itself.

Does it actually work?

No university we checked publishes how often marks go up, so nobody can honestly promise a result. Apply when you failed narrowly, you know you wrote the answers, or a total looks wrong, and keep preparing for the back paper in parallel.

Problem 4 of 6

CGPA โ†’ % Radar

Only formulas printed by the university itself, with the batch they apply to.

VTU (2015 to 2018 schemes)

67.50%

(CGPA - 0.75) x 10 ยท 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes

Printed by the university ยท vtu.ac.in

AKTU: no official formula found. Sites quote different ones, so use the percentage your university prints or certifies.

RGPV: no official formula found. Sites quote different ones, so use the percentage your university prints or certifies.

VTU and DBATU changed formulas between schemes, so pick the line that matches your admission year. For jobs and higher studies, the conversion certificate from your university always wins.

Problem 5 of 6

Off-Campus Placement Roadmap

Zero companies on campus? The route tier-3 students actually use.

  1. 1Pick one role, not five

Choose one target (web developer, data analyst, QA, support engineer) and learn what its job posts ask for.

  2. 2Build 2 or 3 proof projects

Deployed apps or analysis notebooks with a clear README beat ten certificates. Put them on GitHub with live links.

  3. 3Make an ATS-friendly resume

One page, plain single-column layout, no tables or photos, and the exact keywords from the job description.

  4. 4Apply where mass recruiters don't filter by college

Company career pages, off-campus drives, hiring challenges and startup job boards care about skills more than campus tier.

  5. 5Ask for referrals the right way

On LinkedIn or X, message engineers at the company with your project link and the job ID. Short, specific and polite gets replies.

  6. 6Practise interviews out loud

DSA basics, your own projects end to end, and HR answers. Record yourself or practise with a friend every week.

This is practical advice from how off-campus hiring works, not a promise of a job. Avoid any agency that charges you for a "guaranteed placement".

Problem 6 of 6

Internship vs Fake Certificate

AICTE's internship policy, the free government portal, and red flags.

AICTE internship policy

AICTE Internship Policy: a B.Tech student should earn a minimum of 14 to 20 credits of internship and entrepreneurial activities, with 1 credit equal to at least 40 to 45 hours of work (about 600 to 700 hours in total). Suggested schedule: after 2nd semester summer, 3 to 4 weeks of inter or intra institutional activities (3 to 4 credits); after 4th semester summer, 4 to 6 weeks in industry, government, NGO, MSME, rural or innovation work (4 to 6 credits); after 6th semester summer, another 4 to 6 weeks (4 to 6 credits); 8th semester, 3 to 4 weeks of project work and seminar (3 to 4 credits). The policy says institutes are advised to send students for internship at least twice, and its template letter says AICTE has made internship mandatory for all technical education students. Your own university's scheme decides the exact credits and timing.
AICTE National Internship Portal (NIP) ยท free, no agents

Red flags and fine print

The AICTE National Internship Portal describes itself as free for students with 'no agents and no fees'. AICTE has publicly warned about imposters using its name for fake recruitment (Nov 2021, reported by Careers360). A press report (Patrika) says the UGC chairperson told students to trust only NATS and government portals for internships and to ignore other notices; the official UGC notice itself was Not found. No official AICTE or UGC circular that specifically bans paid training certificates was found. Practical rule: a real internship does not ask the student to pay; a certificate bought from a paid 'training institute' is not the same as an internship done in an organisation. Internshala is a private company (run by Scholiverse Educare Private Limited), not a government portal, although AICTE has an MoU with it.
